Empowering Women in Health in Zambia

Championing gender equity for universal health coverage.

Where It All Began

Women in Global Health Zambia (WGHZ) was co-founded in 2019 by Dr, Mwenya Kasonde, Flata Mwale and Professor Choolwe Jacobs and who now serve as Chapter Director. The chapter has grown its membership from 12 to a network of 500+members from different disciplines within the health sector.

The Chapter officially launched on 24th June 2022 with a face-to-face event that was graced with the presence of the Minister of Health Honorable Sylvia Masebo who committed to supporting the Organization towards its goals.

WGHZ is currently a locally registered not-for-profit organization that is championing gender equity in health as a means to achieving Universal Health Coverage. This includes women’s leadership, Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), protection of female health workers, and gender-responsive health systems and pandemic preparedness and response.

Projects

Take insights into some of our projects to empower females all around the country.

WGHZ Pad Donation

In 2025, WGH Zambia conducted an outreach to selected schools and health facilities, where we donated sanitary pads to female youths.

WGHZ Commemoration of GBV

In 2025, members of WGH Zambia gathered to commemorate 16 days of activism against Gender Based Violence (GBV) and work together to put and end to it.

Events

WGH Zambia is excited to have joined the govt, partners and champions across the country for the launch of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence under the powerful theme: “Unite to End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls", up until the 10th of November 2025.

We exhibited at the national launch event held at Copperbelt University!

We were excited to welcome Hon. Sylvia Masebo, Minister of Lands, together with the UNFPA Country Representative, to our stand today!

Hon. Masebo took time to cheer us to continue our work, engaged with our team, and committed to her support for advancing women’s health and gender equity in Zambia. We are honoured by this visit and encouraged to keep pushing for transformative change.

Together, we can achieve true gender equity!
